Police attack women demanding “justice”

Police attacked the HDP Women’s Council members, who wanted to make a statement in front of the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan in order to demand “justice” for female inmates.
Istanbul-Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Women’s Council members, including the party MPs Züleyha Gülüm, Hüda Kaya, Muazzez Orhan, Serpil Kemalbay and Oya Ersoy gathered in front of the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan with the motto, “Justice for Female Inmates” in order to end the ongoing rights violations in prisons. They wanted to make a statement but the police surrounded them and didn’t allow them to make the statement.
Women reacted to the ban and said that they gathered in front of the courthouse to demand justice. Police attacked the women. HDP MP Züleyha Gülüm said, “We gathered to demand justice for women. What we face here shows the misogynist politics.”
The female party members walked away after the police attack. The MPs are still waiting in front of the courthouse.
