The people of Shengal held a march initiating the activities and commemorations to mark the 8th anniversary of the genocide committed against Yazidis on August 3, 2014.
Shengal- The Yazidi Free Women's Movement (TAJÊ) held a march initiating the activities and commemorations to mark the 8th anniversary of the genocide committed against Yazidi on August 3, 2014 in Shengal with participation of many women.
The women participating in the march shouted slogans and carried photographs of the women, who lost their lives in the genocide and banners. The women began to march from the office of the Directorate of Agriculture located in the Sinun town of Shengal. The women ended the march at the Martyr Mam Zeki Crossroads. Teacher Nesrin Selam issued a statement on behalf of TAJÊ.
In the statement, she underlined that the wounds of the 2014 genocide have not been healed yet, “The genocide was committed by ISIS against the Yazidis on August 3, 2014. At that time, there were 12,000 Peshmerga members, 6,000 members of the internal security forces and the Iraqi army were in Shengal. But they fled and left the people of Shengal unprotected. As result of them, a cultural and physical genocide was committed in Shengal.”
“The genocide should be officially recognized”
Recalling that the whole world remained silent against the genocide started in Shengal but HPG, YJA Star, YPG and YPJ fighters arrived to protect the Yazidi people, Nesrin Selam said, “The genocide committed against the Yazidis should be officially recognized. We oppose the October 9 agreement, which would pave the way for new genocide and edicts. These dirty plans and policies should be abandoned immediately. Those who responsible for the genocide should be held accountable.”
“We will continue to struggle”
The Yazidi Free Women's Movement (TAJÊ) member Wetha Şengalî made a speech after the statement. “We will continue to struggle. The pain of the genocide is still fresh. We still hear the cries of the children of Shengal,” she said in her speech.
Activist Feho Silêman also made a speech and said, “We, as the Yazidi women, will fight until we avenge our martyrs. We will never stop struggling.”
