People of Makhmour protest siege imposed by Iraqi government
The people of Makhmour Refugee Camp held a march on Wednesday, protesting the siege imposed on the camp by the Iraqi government. They called on the Iraqi government to fulfil its duties and responsibilities.

Makhmour- The Iraqi government has imposed a siege on the Martyr Rustem Cudi Camp (Makhmour Refugee Camp) since April 10. A delegation consisting of camp representatives went to Baghdad to raise objections over the siege; they were detained on their way to the camp by the Iraqi security forces on May 14 after they had met with the Iraqi Justice Ministry. The five members of the delegation have not been released yet.
On Wednesday, the people of the camp held a march to protest the ongoing siege and the detention of their representatives. The march started in front of the building of the Martyrs' Families Organization and ended in front of the building of the United Nations (UN). The marchers held the posters of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and the photos of Ahmed Şehbaz, Bêwar Emin and Edban Yılmaz, the detained delegation members.
“The people of Makhmour do not need anyone,” said Nudem Yaman, Co-chair of the Makhmour People's Assembly. However, the Iraqi government, in the cooperation of the Turkish state, has been imposing a siege on the camp since April 10 in order to dismantle the camp. Despite the siege, the people of the camp resist. The aim of the siege is to break the will of the people; however, our people will continue to resist.”
