Peace Mothers: We will stand against the occupation

The Peace Mothers in the Kurdistan Region condemn the ongoing Turkish attacks on their region and say that the Kurdish people’s gains should not be wasted on the interests of the regional government and some families.

Sulaymaniyah - Turkey launched a ground and air cross-border operation in the territories of the Kurdistan Region on April 17 with the support of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP or PDK). While the Turkish attacks on the region continue, the authorities in the Kurdistan Region continue to remain silent against the attacks. The Kurdistan Region’s Peace Mothers and the representatives of many political parties released a statement condemning Turkey’s attacks aiming to occupy the region with the support of the KDP.

Sebriya Emer, a member of the Peace Mothers, said that mothers don’t accept the occupation. “The Iraqi government and the regional government should not remain silent against the attacks and not allow the attacks against the Kurds. As a mother, I call on all mothers and women to support the guerrillas against the occupation,” she said.

“I condemn the Barzani family”

Leyla Ali, another member of the Peace Mothers, condemned the regional government and the Barzani family and said, “The president of the PDK doesn’t know the meaning of being a president. The PDK, which paved the way for ISIS in 2014, caused a great tragedy for the Yazidi people. The guerrillas protected the Yazidis against the attacks and liberated Shengal. Now, the PDK sees guerrillas as enemies due to its own interests and the interests of the Turkish state. The guerrillas of the PKK sacrifice their lives every day to protect the lands of Kurdistan while the PDK supports the Turkish state and claims that the PKK guerrillas are anti-Kurdish.”

“The people of Behdinan region scare the PDK”

Speaking about the situation in the Behdinan region, Leyla Ali said, “The people of the Behdinan region are arrested because they are against the system and government. The people of the region are intimidated because of the pressures on them. The people of the Behdinan region face pressure because they scare the PDK. As a mother, I condemn Masoud Barzani. He remains silent against attacks on the Kurds. Thanks to the ideology of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan, women are free and defend their homeland and nation now.”
