Egypt- Every year on 9 November, the Coalition for Sexual and Bodily Rights in Muslim Societies (CSBR) organizes the international One Day, One Struggle (ODOS) campaign for sexual and bodily rights. This year, the coalition kicks off the campaign to raise awareness of the public.

The coalition conducted a survey and shared the data of the survey: “43% of women participating in the survey have sexual disorders while 31% of men participating in the survey have sexual disorders.” The ODOS focuses on physical, emotional, psychological, and social factors causing sexual disorders.

Social problems cause physical disorders

“Many women suffer from desire disorders due to many factors such as social and physical problems. We received applications usually related to physical health disorders or problems. Most applicants complain about postpartum disorders, hypertension, and menstruation disorders. Most of the physical disorders are caused by social problems,” the coalition said in its statement.

Menstruation is still considered taboo

The coalition also underlines in its statement that menstruation is still considered taboo because of cultural and religious beliefs. “Most women don’t know anything about premenstrual syndrome. Our aim is to raise awareness of women.”
