Hasakah- Although the Turkish state keeps targeting the gains of the revolution in Rojava, women are determined to protect their gains and revolution under all circumstances.
Mala Jin (Women's House, a kind of women's shelter) office in the town of Zirgan, Hasakah Canton, provides support to women and children and aims to eliminate all forms of violence against women. In 2023, the center received 19 applications from women about their problems. The center has resolved seven of these problems and made efforts to resolve the other problems.
‘Women and children are affected more by the attacks’
NuJINHA spoke to Sediya Eydo, officer of Mala Jin center in Zirgan, about their activities. “For a year, we have made great efforts to end polygamy, child marriage, forced marriage and violence against women. Women and children are affected more by the ongoing Turkish attacks. In 2023, we have carried out many activities to support women and children affected by the attacks.
‘We become stronger when we solve the problems faced by women’
Emphasizing that Mala Jin is a space for women, Sediya Eydo said:
“We will not leave women alone against invaders and the patriarchal mindset. We always stand with women. We hold seminars and training programs for women. If we do not defend our land or leave it, we will give up all our rights. The more we defend our land, the more we will defend our rights. We become stronger when we solve the problems faced by women.”
‘We faced obstacles’
The members of Mala Jin visit homes to listen to women without expecting women to come to the center. “The town of Zirgan is often targeted by the Turkish forces. We work as a team to solve the problems faced by women in Zirgan and its rural areas.” The members of Mala Jin faced obstacles while providing support to women. “Men tried to violate women’s rights as if no revolution was started here. They wanted to impose their authority on women by saying 'women are women, men are men’,” Sediya Eydo said.
‘We try to tell society that women have rights’
Pointing out that the burdens on women have become even heavier due to the ongoing Turkish attacks on the town, Sediya Eydo said:
“We carry out awareness-raising activities against all forms of violence. The women's cause is also an important cause in the world; we try to tell society that women have rights. Women undertake many tasks in all facets of life, including in the military. We call on all women to unite because together we can defeat the occupation, defend our cities and liberate ourselves.”
