According to the received reports, last night, 75 year-old Nimet Akgün began to discuss with 80-year-old Ali Akgün, who used violence against her and her disabled daughter in Bahçelerüstü Neighborhood of Ankara’s Mamak district. Discussion suddenly turned into a fight and Nimet Akgün defended herself with a knife, she took the kitchen.

After the incident occurred last night, Nimet Akgün was taken into custody like Melek İpek, who used her self-defense right against male violence.

“Don’t stop women, but male violence”

Mor Dayanışma (Purple Association for Women's Solidarity in Turkey) has made a solidarity statement on social media. In the statement entitled, “Self-defense is a right”, women say, “Women are forced to live in houses full of violence, they have been left desperate while male violence is legitimized. Release Melek İpek and Nimet Akgün, who didn’t remain silent against violence and protected their lives. Don’t stop women, but male violence!”
