Musa Anter Journalism Awards: Our new agency receives Special Jury Prize

The winners of the 28th Musa Anter and Free Press Martyrs Journalism Awards received their awards. “I dedicate my award to Nujinha reporters working in the Middle East, Emine Şenyaşar, Saturday Mothers and journalist Rohat Aktaş who was burned to death in the basement of Cizre,” said NuJinha correspondent Medine Mamedoğlu when she received the Special Jury Prize in the Women's Journalism category at the award ceremony.

Istanbul- Prominent Kurdish journalist Musa Anter (Apê Musa) was killed in Diyarbakır on September 20, 1992.  Since then, the Musa Anter and Free Press Martyrs Journalism Awards have been held annually in his memory. The winners of the 28th Musa Anter and Free Press Martyrs Journalism Awards received their awards. The award ceremony was held by Yeni Yaşam Newspaper at the Cemil Candaş Cultural Center, located in İstanbul’s Şişli district. The awards were given in five categories “Turkish News”, “Kurdish News”, “Photography”, “Cartoon,” and “Women's Journalism” in memory of Gurbetelli Ersöz, a Kurdish journalist and the first female editor-in-chief of the Özgür Gündem newspaper. Relatives of killed journalists, Peace Mothers, Saturday Mothers, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Mithat Sancar, Human Rights Association (IHD) Co-chair Eren Keskin, HDP MPs, and many representatives of press organizations and NGOs attended the award ceremony.

Pictures of killed journalists hung on walls of hall

Pictures of Musa Anter, Gurbetelli Ersöz and killed journalists were hung on the walls of the meeting hall. Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were killed in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız on June 14, 2018, has been granted the Honor Award for holding sit-in protest in front of Urfa Courthouse for six months to demand justice for her killed relatives. Eylem Arzu Kaya, lawyer of Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, received the award on behalf of Emine Şenyaşar.

Canan Coşkun receives the first prize

Diken correspondent Canan Coşkun received the first prize in the Turkish News category. Mesopotamia News Agency (MA) correspondent Diren Yurtsever received the Special Jury Prize in the Turkish News category. Jinnews correspondent Sema Çağlak received the first prize in the Kurdish News category.

NuJinha correspondent Medine Mamedoğlu receives the Special Jury Prize

The Special Jury Prize in the Women's Journalism category was given to two journalists. NuJinha correspondent Medine Mamedoğlu and Jinnews correspondent Derya Ren received their prizes at the award ceremony. “I dedicate my award to Nujinha reporters working in the Middle East, Emine Şenyaşar, Saturday Mothers and journalist Rohat Aktaş who was burned to death in the basement of Cizre,” said Medine Mamedoğlu in her speech at the ceremony.
