Amed- 33-year-old Hilal Kar was shot dead by Mehmet D. in the 5 Nisan neighborhood of Amed's Rezan (Bağlar) district when she left home to go to work yesterday. Hilal Kar had a religious marriage with Mehmet D. Hilal Kar had filed many criminal complaints against Mehmet D. before being killed.
‘She had been subjected to violence since the first day of her marriage’
Hilal Kar religiously married Mehmet D. four years ago and had four children. Fikriye Kar told NuJINHA that her daughter, Hilal Kar, had been subjected to violence by her spouse since the first day of her marriage. Due to violence, Hilal Kar left her home. “My daughter had to move several times because she received threats,” Fikriye Kar said.
“She had always been subjected to violence since the first day of her marriage. He constantly threatened my daughter. He took my daughter’s money and left her and her children hungry. I told my daughter to ‘leave him’ many times but he threatened my daughter to harm us. My daughter left her home with her children but Mehmet D. took one of her sons and told my daughter ‘If you go to work, I will kill you’. He attacked my daughter while she was going to work. The taxi driver is also his accomplice. The taxi driver and Mehmet D. should be imprisoned. They should not go unpunished.”
‘If he had been in prison, he would not have killed my daughter’
Hilal Kar had filed criminal complaints against Mehmet D. many times. “He was arrested but then released. We were told, ‘He smokes marijuana, we cannot do anything’ by the police. Despite all the complaints, he was released. If he had been in prison, he would not have killed my daughter. All I want is justice, the arrest and punishment of the murderer.”
‘Women should not be killed anymore’
Fikriye Kar called on all women’s organizations to follow up on the murder case of her daughter and said:
“The state should not release men using violence against women and killing women. When such men are released, they kill women. Laws should defend women’s rights. Women should not be killed anymore and children should not be left without their mothers anymore. The killers of women should not be released from prison anymore.”
