Amed-  Gülan Ateş, the mother of Kurbani Özcan, who was tortured in Diyarbakır T Type Prison, started a sit-in in front of the Diyarbakır Courthouse after her son was threatened by the prison manager saying, “Your dead body will go out of here”. Gülan Ateş has been hospitalized today, on the second day of her sit-in.

According to the Mesopotamia Agency (MA), Gülan Ateş’s son has been held in prison for 10 years and she has not been allowed to see her son in the prison. During a phone call with her son, Kurbani Özcan told her that he was threatened by the prison administration. After the phone call, she came to Diyarbakır to visit her son in prison; however, the prison administration did not allow her to see her son.

“Your mother will take your dead body”

During the phone call, Kurbani Özcan told his mother, “Mother, the wardens battered me. I told the prison manager how the wardens had battered me.” In response, the prison manager told him, “The people of Erzurum are Armenians. Your dead body will go out of here. You will not be able to get out of here alive. Your mother will take your dead body.”
