Morocco- Morocco on Wednesday (March 23) launched its first national action plan on a UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security to boost gender equality and female empowerment.

A virtual meeting was held for the official presentation of the Women, Peace, and Security Action Plan, which was prepared according to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1325. It is noteworthy that Morocco is one of the first North African countries to launch such an action plan.

Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Gabon, Ghana, Norway, Colombia, Sima Sami Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women, and Bineta Diop, Chairperson of the African Union Commission and the Special Envoy on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS), attended the meeting.

The Security Council adopted resolution 1325 on women and peace and security on 31 October 2000. The resolution reaffirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, peace negotiations, peace-building, peacekeeping, humanitarian response, and post-conflict reconstruction and stresses the importance of their equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security.
