Mizgin Ronak released after 30 years in prison
Writer Mizgin Ronak has been released from prison after serving 30 years. Mizgin Ronak has dedicated her freedom to those who lost their lives in the struggle for democracy.
News Center- Writer Mizgin Ronak (Real surname: Aydın), has been released from the Gebze Closed Women’s Prison after serving 30 years in prison. In 1992, she was tried by the State Security Court (DGM) in Diyarbakır and she was sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of “being a member of a terrorist organization” when she was 19. Being held in many of Turkey's prisons, she joined many hunger strikes. Mizgin Ronak, who has suffered from many health problems, has been receiving treatment for breast cancer.
Mizgin Ronak was welcomed by her family members and many people with flowers outside the prison. Making a speech outside the prison, Mizgin Ronak said that she has dedicated her freedom to those who lost their lives in the struggle for democracy. “Freedom is not freedom as long as even one of our friends is held in prison. We demand the release of all our friends,” she said.
