Message from Kobanê to vigil at Kobanê border: We will prevail

Women of Kobanê sent their greetings to the vigil started by the people of Northern Kurdistan against Turkish invasion attacks on northeastern Syria and said, “We will prevail against the Turkish invasion policies.”

Kobanê- Since the fall of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024, the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions have intensified their attacks on North and East Syria, especially on the Tishreen Dam. Thousands of people keep going to the dam to support the resistance of the Women's Defense Units (YPJ) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Since January 8, the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions have targeted civilian convoys heading to the Tishreen Dam, killing seven people and injuring dozens. Despite the attacks, the resistance on the dam continues.

The attacks are protested not only in North and East Syria but also in Mardin’s in Nusaybin at the Qamishlo border and in Pirsûs (Suruç) district of Riha (Urfa) at Kobanê border. The vigils that started at the Qamishlo border and Kobanê border to protest the attacks continue.

“Our military forces have been making history by resisting the occupying Turkish state,” said Fatima Halil, one woman of Kobanê. “As the women of Kobanê, we support our military forces. We will keep defending our region.”

‘We are determined to resist’

The aim of the Turkish state is to annihilate the Kurdish people, Fatima Halil stressed. “Despite the Turkish attacks targeting civilians, people resist. We are determined to resist as they did against ISIS in Kobanê in 2014.

‘The people of Kurdistan must be aware of their responsibilities’

Fatima Halil believes that the Turkish state has intensified its attacks on North and East Syria because it cannot accept the defeat of ISIS. “The Turkish state aims to revive ISIS. The international community and all people must once again stand with the people of Kobanê and raise their voices against the attacks. We resisted in 2014 and we will resist. We have strong will and the attacks cannot break our will. The Kurds in four parts of Kurdistan must be aware of their responsibilities and be in solidarity with each other against the Turkish invasion policies.”

‘We get strength from mothers resisting at the borders’

Dicle Müslim drew attention to the vigils started by the people of Northern Kurdistan at the Qamishlo and Kobanê borders. “As the women of Kobanê, we send our greetings to the resistance of the people of Northern Kurdistan. They supported us to defeat ISIS. Borders cannot divide the Kurdish people. We get strength from the mothers resisting at the borders despite the freezing weather. We demand the end of the attacks on our region. We will keep resisting the Turkish invasion and prevail.”
