Men kill 31 women in Turkey last month
31 women were killed, 21 more died under suspicious circumstances in Turkey last month, according to the January 2024 report released by the We Will Stop Femicide Platform.

In January, 31 women were killed and 21 more died under suspicious circumstances, the report said. “Six women were killed by men on the excuse that they had asked for a divorce, refused marriage or dating proposals. One woman was killed on the excuse of financial reasons, one for protecting her mother. The excuse of men, who killed 23 women, could not be determined.”
‘Violence continues by changing its forms’
Violence against women and femicide are on rise because they are invisible, the report stated. “Without the determination of the reasons behind femicide, the fair trial and preventive measures, violence against women continues by changing its forms.”
35% of women were killed by their husbands
11 women were killed by their husbands, five by their ex-husbands, three by their partners, three by men they knew, two by their ex-partners, two by their fathers, one by her son, one by man she did not know, according to the report. “In January, 35% of women were killed by their husbands.”
19 women were killed at their homes
According to the report, 19 women were killed at their homes, seven on the street, two in entertainment venues, two in public spaces, one in a car. “19 women were shot dead, nine were killed with sharp objects, two were choked to death. The weapon used to kill one woman could not be determined.”
