Konya – On July 30, 2021, Mehmet Altun killed Yaşar Dedeoğulları, İpek Dedeoğulları, Serap Dedeoğulları, Sibel Dedeoğulları, Serpil Dedeoğulları, Metin Dedeoğulları and Barış Dedeoğulları in the Hasanköy neighborhood of Konya’s Meram district. Six days after the massacre, Mehmet Altun was detained in the rural area of Konya’s Bozkır district for killing seven people, including four women. In his testimony at the police station, Mehmet Altun claimed that he had gone to the Dedeoğulları family’s house to ask them to withdraw their complaints against his sister Ayşe Keleş and brother-in-law Lütfi Keleş. Dedeoğulları family welcomed Mehmet Altun because he introduced himself as “municipal officer”.

“I first introduced myself as a municipal officer. When I took off my face mask, they directly recognized me. They walked up to me when they recognized me. So I took out my gun and told them to withdraw from their complaint against my sister and brother-in-law. I asked them to sign the document that I had prepared. I went there to compromise but when they walked up to me, I shot and killed them. I tried to set their house on fire to not leave any evidence,” Mehmet Altun said in his testimony.

He was sent to prison

After the detention procedures were completed, Mehmet Altun was taken to the Konya Courthouse under security measures. Mehmet Altun has been sent to prison for the “atrocious killing of seven family members”, “causing damage to property”, “violating of residence immunity” and “having an unregistered firearm.”

WhatsApp group created before the attack

10 people, including Mehmet Altun’s wife, mother, father, and sister, were arrested on August 3. Abdurrahman Karabulut, the lawyer of the Dedeoğulları reported on his Twitter account that a WhatsApp group was created to plan and organize the attack.

Autopsy reports

According to the autopsy reports of seven victims, a total of 21 bullets were found in the bodies of victims and six victims were shot in the head.
