Media ignores women in Turkey

Association for Support and Training of Women Candidates (KA-DER) conducted a research on TV programs broadcasted by mainstream media and has shared the results; Women's participation in the 2089 TV programs is only 21 percent.

News Center- Association for Support and Training of Women Candidates (KA-DER) conducted research on TV programs broadcasted by mainstream media. 13 channels broadcasting mostly news were chosen to conduct the research. The gender of the people participating in the TV programs and discussion programs broadcasted between 1 July 2020 and 1 January 2021 was included in the research. The result is the same; the channels don’t allow women to express their thoughts.

The number of women participated in 2089 was 582 while the number of men was 5.532.

The rate of female representation in 2089 programs by channels; Bloomberg HT (2%), CNN Türk (4%), TVNET, Ulusal Kanal, and Haber Global (6%), Ülke TV (8%), A Haber (9%), NTV and Tele 1 (10%), Habertürk TV (11%), TRT Haber (13%), TV 24 (16%), Halk TV (21%).

No women were invited to 77% of the 2089 TV programs.
