Makhmore — The fourth conference of the Şehid Rustom Judi Refugee Camp (Makhmore) was described as a pivotal milestone for strengthening and organizing the community's structure, held on June 1 under the slogan: "National Socialism — the state on the path to collapse, and Democratic Socialism on the path to victory."
The five-day conference, attended by 470 delegates, witnessed intensive discussions on the political and organizational situation and the course of work over the past two years. It concluded with outcomes and decisions described as successful.
The evaluations of leader Abdullah Öcalan and the defense of the camp's achievements constituted a central axis of the conference's proceedings. On the fifth day, after the election of the new co-presidency, the final declaration was announced. The elections resulted in the selection of Hezar Nerikhi and Bedran Piranî as co-chairs of the People's Council.
"June 1 Holds Its Own Significance"
The new co-chair, Hezar Nerikhi, emphasized the symbolic timing of the conference: "The convening of the conference on June 1 was not an ordinary event for us. During it, we conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the work of the past two years, of the leadership and organizational visions, and we carefully assessed the reality of the camp. Over five days, we identified the shortcomings that emerged during the previous period, discussed the difficulties we faced, and outlined the features of the next work plan."
"The Central Issue of the Conference Was the Leadership"
Regarding the "Peace and Democratic Society" path initiated by leader Abdullah Öcalan, she explains: "We live in a phase where the contours of a third world war are escalating. In response, the efforts of the leadership and our movement continue despite all circumstances. We in Makhmore Camp have been part of this struggle for thirty years of exile, and our loyalty to the leadership, the movement, and the martyrs has been the foundation of our existence. Therefore, the issue of the leadership and the political path was a central focus of our conference. We conducted a deep critical assessment and developed a clear action plan for the next two years."
"Women Were at the Forefront of the Conference"
Hezar Nerikhi affirmed that the presence of women was striking and powerful: "The voice and will of women emerged at the highest levels of discussion. Women were at the forefront of the dialogue on leadership, the political path, youth, and community reality. It can be said that the conference was held under the leadership of women, and the strength and will of women were clearly manifested."
She continued: "The selection of my colleague Bedran and myself as co-chairs is a great responsibility and a tremendous honor. The community has placed its trust in us, and it is our duty to live up to that trust. Important decisions were made at the conference, and our primary task now is to implement them. According to the conference's vision, we will work over the next two years to be worthy of the leadership and the sacrifices of the martyrs."
