Kobanê – The international campaign demanding the physical freedom of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan continues. The women living in Kobanê, northeastern Syria, have been carrying out many activities as part of the campaign.

‘The attacks on the Kurdish people are the continuation of the conspiracy’

In an interview with NuJINHA, Magda Hassoun, coordinating member of Kongra Star in Kobanê, commented on the isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan by the Turkish state and the international campaign demanding his physical freedom. “On behalf of all the women of the city of Kobanê, we strongly condemn the isolation imposed on him. The isolation imposed on leader Öcalan in Imrali prison has been intensified every day. The attacks and violations against the Kurdish people in four parts (of Kurdistan) are the continuation of the conspiracy,” she said.

 ‘People strengthen their bond with Abdullah Öcalan’

Magda Hassoun thinks that the isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan has been aggravated to prevent the spread of his philosophy and thoughts. “Despite the aggravated isolation, people strengthen their bond with him. The protests show us this. In the Middle East and all around the world, all institutions and organizations, especially women’s organizations embrace Önder Öcalan's thoughts. Women have a strong bond with Leader Öcalan because he frees women from slavery and oppression.”

The isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan is a violation of international law, Magda Hassoun noted. “Leader Öcalan is not allowed to see his family members and lawyers and he is subjected to disciplinary punishments. These are the violations of human rights.” Magda Hassoun told us that Abdullah Öcalan stayed in Kobanê for a very long time when he went to Syria. “This is very important for the people in the region. The people of Kobanê united around his thoughts, they got stronger and formed their administration. Women of Kobanê have organized many protests and activities to demand his physical freedom.”

 ‘We will ensure his physical freedom’

Speaking about the international campaign demanding the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan, she said:

“An international campaign was launched to demand his physical freedom. Since then, many activities, protests and campaigns, including a petition, have been carried out in North and East Syria. We will show the conspirators that they cannot break our bond with him. The petition was launched at the beginning of February and it will continue until we collect the necessary signatures. Many women have already signed the petition. As women of Rojava, we actively participate in the international campaign. Such activities will frustrate the international conspiracy against leader Öcalan and thus we will ensure his physical freedom. As women, we should know his thoughts and philosophy very well and spread them all around the world. We will continue to carry out our activities and ensure his physical freedom because his thoughts and philosophy are the only key for the solution to the crises in the Middle East and all around the world.”
