Letter from Afghan mother to her sons

An Afghan mother named Tehmina Mangal, who is worried about the future of her children, wrote a letter to her children, calling on them to respect gender equality.

Kabul- Tehmina Mangal is an Afghan women’s rights activist who always reacts to all forms of repression practiced by the Taliban against women and girls. She has three sons and a daughter. Like millions of other Afghan mothers, she is worried about the future of her children, particularly her daughter since the Taliban has banned women and girls from attending high school and university.

As the new school year in Afghanistan begins, she wrote a letter to her sons. Her letter is as follows:

“I teach my sons to love themselves, their family, their nation, and their country. I teach my sons to love humanity. I tell them there is no difference between them and their sister; God created them and their sister. Girls are God's blessings; no one should take their rights away. Our daughters make our home a place of light and they are the sunshine on our lands. My sons, the future men of our society, should not succumb to patriarchal thoughts; they should build a more democratic society. Long live Afghanistan.”
