Lawyer: Political Authority Dominates the Law in the Kurdistan Region
Lawyer Samira Ali confirmed that the authorities in the Kurdistan Region alter the laws, and therefore citizens do not enjoy social rights or justice.

News Center – On November 26, 2006, the United Nations General Assembly declared February 20 of each year as the World Day of Social Justice, at a time when the world was facing difficult conditions, including unemployment, the protection of human rights, and the fight against social marginalization. After 18 years of efforts to achieve social justice worldwide, wars and injustice are still ongoing.
This year’s attacks on the Kurds in Rojava are considered another injustice, and the demand for basic rights in East Kurdistan and Iran is also seen as a violation of justice among individuals. The siege imposed on Kobani, which has continued since January 20, 2026, is a blatant violation of justice, while states remain silent about it.
In an exclusive interview with our agency, lawyer Samira Ali stated that equality and social justice around the world mean equality for all. People are equal in their duties and rights before the law, and injustice must be eliminated in all fields. “This can be achieved through organized labor unions. Human rights and press rights can be used to exert pressure to eliminate injustice. Through wars and attacks, injustices are committed against individuals in society, which shows a lack of respect for justice. This has been the case for nearly 20 years.”
“Injustice must be eliminated in all fields”
Statistics indicate that more than 191 million people worldwide are unemployed, and more than one billion people live below the poverty line. These figures show that equality and social justice have not been achieved across the world.
In capitalist countries, women are treated as commodities. Samira Ali commented on this: “Notice how they are exploited by modernity through advertisements where the female body is commodified. As seen in a country with a capitalist system, incidents such as the Epstein case occur. Despite the promotion of equality and human rights, there is neither justice nor real equality there.”
“Youth migration is the result of injustice”
Samira Ali said that activists have not played an effective role in bringing about change:
“Many activists seek fame and money rather than building equality and justice. Some try to run for political positions in pursuit of fame and political and financial gains, ignoring citizens’ rights. This leads to the disappearance of equality and justice among individuals. It is also a cause of unemployment and lack of job opportunities in their countries, forcing them to migrate. The oppressed are not given fair trials, while young people who seek justice are punished and prosecuted. Court decisions and law enforcement do not serve citizens’ interests; decisions are changed because of officials’ sons. The authorities in the region have disrupted the education system, the government is corrupt, and the journalist who exposes their corruption and crimes before the public is prosecuted or assassinated.”
She added that individuals in the region are unaware of their rights, equality, and duties, and that equality and justice will not be achieved unless citizens understand the rights and obligations of every individual.
There is injustice in every society, but in the Kurdistan Region political authority dominates the law. Although injustice exists everywhere in the world, legal texts in other places are applied to everyone without discrimination.
A 60-year-old journalist revealed a crime, but in the Kurdistan Region journalists are restricted and there is no law that protects them. Therefore, every individual must educate themselves so that society can be organized to demand rights. Labor unions and activists must move خارج the political framework so that everyone can live in equality and justice.
