News Center- The parliamentary election in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq for the sixth parliamentary term was held on Sunday. The preliminary results of the election will be announced on Monday evening, according to the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) of Iraq.

The turnout in the parliamentary election reached 72%, the commission said in a statement on Sunday. The highest turnout was in Duhok (78%) while the lowest turnout was in Sulaymaniyah (65%).

368 female candidates

According to the commission, 1,191 candidates run for the elections, including 368 women (30% of the candidates). According to the Kurdistan Region’s election law, women must comprise at least 30% of elected members.

The seats allocated for women in four cities are as follows:

*Sulaymaniyah: 11 out of 38 seats allocated for women.

*Erbil: 10 out of 34 seats allocated for women.

*Duhok: Eight out of 25 seats allocated for women.

*Halabja: One out of three seats allocated for women.
