Kürdistan Koçer: Now is the time to defend the co-presidential system
“Now is the time to defend the co-presidential system because it is one of the gains of the women’s revolution,” said Kürdistan Koçer, a member of the YPJ Military Council.

RONÎDA HACÎ
Hasakah- Since the Rojava Revolution began on July 19, 2012, the Kurdish people in Rojava Kurdistan have organized and educated themselves in accordance with the thoughts and philosophy of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. People from different ethnic and religious groups have proven their existence in the system of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and women have played important roles in decision-making positions thanks to the co-presidential system.
“Amid the recent developments in the world, defending the co-presidential system is important because it is the most appropriate model that protects the rights of all people,” said Kürdistan Koçer, a member of the Women's Defense Units (YPJ) Military Council.
‘The co-presidential system is one of the gains of the women’s revolution’
“The co-presidential system is one of the gains of the women’s revolution and it should be defended. We attach importance to this system because it promotes gender equality in society. This system embraces all identities in North and East Syria, protecting the rights of women and all ethnic and religious groups. The aim of this system is to build an ethical, political and democratic society.”
‘Now is the time to defend the co-presidential system’
Kürdistan Koçer believes that the co-presidential system is the most appropriate system for the future of Syria. “The co-presidential system was built and protected by the resistance of the YPJ fighters. This system should be implemented across Syria and all around the world because it embraces all identities in society, guarantees women's rights, protects the culture and languages of all ethnic and religious groups. Since we have entered a sensitive period, now is the time to defend this system to build a gender-equal society in Syria.”
‘We believe in the power of women’
Kürdistan Koçer called on all women to build a free life with dignity in Syria and said, “This system was built by leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan), the martyrs and fighters of the YPJ, YPG and SDF. We believe in the power of women who protect and stand by this system. Now, women have participated in all facets of life, including military, councils, communes, education, thanks to this system.”
