News Center- The Kurdistan Human Rights Network has reported today that Verishe Moradi, a women’s rights defender and member of the East Kurdistan Free Women Society (KJAR), has started a hunger strike to protest having been transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison on May 14.

According to the network, Pakhshan Azizi, a Kurdish activist and former political prisoner, has also started a hunger strike to protest Verishe Moradi’s transfer to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.

On August 1, 2023, Verishe Moradi was arrested and taken to an unknown location by the members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Sanandaj. Pakhshan Azizi was arrested in Tehran on August 3, 2023. After being held in a detention center for five months, they were transferred to Evin Prison in Tehran. Even though nine months have passed, they have not stood trial yet.
