Tal Tamr-In Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods of Aleppo, residents and fighters stood united against attacks by the “Amshat”and “Hamzat” mercenaries, alongside the Turkish-backed “Nur al-Din” faction and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham militants.

Despite the imbalance of forces, residents and fighters of the Internal Security Forces ("Asayish") proved that plans to seize the neighborhoods would not succeed easily, remaining steadfast until the last moment and refusing to surrender or be displaced.

Kulihan Sofi, co-chair of the Tel Tamr City Council in the Jazira region of North and East Syria, said that two states participated in the assault against the besieged neighborhoods. “Facing unarmed civilians with no weapons or tanks, a plan for extermination was put in place. Five days of resistance and sacrifices by fighters and residents against two states, with thousands of armed personnel, tanks, and drones, undoubtedly resulted in a significant victory. There were immense dedication and dignity, as the residents did not easily give up their land and neighborhoods.

She noted that while internal developments were accelerating, Google Maps showed Aleppo in green, with a blue line extending along the Israeli border to include Quneitra and the Golan. “This scene indicates that a transactional deal may have taken place, where the Kurds in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh were sacrificed in exchange for the Golan and Quneitra. What happened is an extremely dangerous plan, and it is crucial that the Syrian people and national forces resist being drawn into a civil war. To keep Syria united from the start, such schemes must be confronted and a civil war must be avoided.

Kulihan Sofi believes that the intentions of the Syrian Interim Government regarding Syria’s future are now clear. “This government, which seeks to divide the country itself, is waging war against the democratic project and the efforts of the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces to maintain a central system. Just as the Golan and Quneitra were ‘sold’ to Israel, they could tomorrow relinquish Syria’s entire sovereignty.

She called for an urgent investigation into the violations accompanying the attacks. “How can the world and guarantor powers ignore the massacres that occurred in these neighborhoods? It is essential to initiate an inquiry documenting the crimes and violations, especially since many went unreported despite their severity,” she added. “This is our demand, as many bodies of our people are still there. The neighborhoods need a comprehensive investigation to uncover what happened and to present these crimes to the public and media so that the truth is not erased.

She recalled the positions of U.S. envoy to Syria Tom Barrett regarding the Kurdish issue and events in Sheikh Maqsoud. “If he truly claims to support peace, why does he ignore the crimes committed by the Interim Government and Turkish occupation mercenaries in the neighborhoods? Does he not see how the Kurds are stripped of their basic rights, or how fighters’ bodies are dumped outside their homes in a scene that violates all humanitarian and ethical values
