News Center- Since the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” protests that sparked in Iran and Rojhilat Kurdistan following the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini in Tehran by Iran’s so-called “morality police” on September 16, 2022, many people, including journalists, human rights activists, have been arrested in the country.

Zhina Modares Gorji, a Kurdish journalist and women’s rights activist, has been sentenced to two years and four months in prison by the Court of Appeals in Sanandaj, Iran’s Kurdistan Province, on charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “forming an illegal group aimed at overthrowing the regime”, her family reported on Monday.

On September 21, 2022, Zhina Modares Gorji was arrested by security forces. After 42 days in detention, she was released on bail.

On April 10,2023, she was arrested again and then she was temporarily released from the women’s ward of the Juvenile Detention Centre of Sanandaj on July 3, 2023.

In June 2023, the journalist was sentenced to 21 years in prison on charges of “forming an illegal group with the aim of overthrowing the regime”, “collaborating with hostile groups and states” and “propaganda against the state”.

According to her family, she has been acquitted of the charge of “collaborating with hostile groups and states.
