Kobanî – Women living in Northern and Eastern Syria have already begun to determine the policies of the next year. Discussing violence, occupation, and the problems of society at their meetings, the members of the Kongreya Star are in search of ways to organize women against their problems and to solve these problems. At their meetings, they focus on how to create alternatives for Arab women and how to organize all women. Also talking about how they will make the gains of the revolution permanent, the members of the Kongreya Star are working on how to save all women from “slavery.” Mizgin Xelil, a member of the Euphrates Region Kongreya Star Coordination, spoke to NuJINHA about their meetings.

“Policies are developed over women”

Indicating that they will find solutions to the problems faced by their society, Mizgin Xelil said, “We have organized our annual meetings for a long time. We hold meetings every year. Due to the attacks of the Turkish state and its armed factions, women have faced more problems. The situation of the displaced women, who live in the Til Semin refugee camp, is very bad. Although we try to solve their problems, women are subjected to violence by the invaders due to threats and attacks. At the meetings, we discuss the current political situation, the situation of women, criticism, and planning. Policies are developed over women and society especially in the Middle East. We discuss how we can overcome these policies. We could not find a solution to the problems recently faced by people but we prepared a plan to end femicides and violence at our meetings.”

“We should empower our resistance”

Pointing to how women should be protected from the mentality of men and the state, Mizgin Xelil said, “The Turkish state wants to destroy the Freedom Movement, to kill or enslave the organized women. We, as women, took steps for revolution and we will never take a step back. For this reason, we should empower our resistance. Many women have faced this danger and violence. We work on finding a solution to this problem.” Stating that Kongreya Star has many committees, Mizgin Xelil continued to talk as follows: “We will, of course, face problems but the important thing is how we will respond to these problems. What is important is that women should believe in themselves. There are many dangers against the achievements of women today. We also held meetings in Arab regions. Arab women liberate themselves from black burqas, old traditions, and customs.”

Call on women

Mizgin Xelil called on women to stand against the occupation, “The regions controlled by the armed factions can be liberated by women.” Mizgin Xelil also criticized themselves and said, “Maybe we couldn’t stand by women as we want. But I want to state that we will reach all women. Surely, women will liberate themselves with education. We will hold meetings in Ayn Issa. Although the enemy tries to attack the women, the women will keep working. Women living in Girê Spî will liberate their region by working hard. We should struggle more against the enemy. When we complete our meetings in cantons, we will hold meetings in every region. At the end of the meetings, we will present our roadmap.”
