Kongra Star: We condemn the genocide against the Yazidi people

“The Yazidi identity’s legacy of resistance will be protected,” Kongra Star said in a written statement to mark the 11th anniversary of the genocide against the Yazidi community, condemning the genocide.

News Center- The Kongra Star Coordination has released a written statement to mark the 11th anniversary of the genocide against the Yazidi community by ISIS in 2014.

“We will work with all our might to rescue all abducted women, whose whereabouts are unknown,” the statement said. The statement continues as follows:

“On the 11th anniversary of the genocide against our Yazidi people, we, as Kongra Star, commemorate all those killed by ISIS with respect. During the genocide, HPG and YJA Star guerrillas and YPG and YPJ fighters went to Shengal (Sinjar) in order to open a humanitarian corridor and save our people from ISIS. We commemorate the fighters, who lost their lives while fighting ISIS.

Our Yazidi people have resisted all forms of aggression and oppression for 11 years and have managed to maintain their system of self-governance based on the philosophy of leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) despite the attacks. We send our warmest greetings to our people. In these 11 years, our Yazidi people have made significant progress and showed us the determination of the organizational power they have built. Women have especially played an important role in society, politics, diplomacy and defense forces. The Yazidi women have united against occupation, religious fundamentalism and sexism under the umbrella of the TAJÊ (Yazidi Free Women's Movement). Yazidi women have led society to build a free future in Shengal.

Our Yazidi people have organized in all facets of life and preserved their identity thanks to the organization of the Yazidi people, failing the dreams and plans of ISIS and its supporters. History once again shows that no power can stand against the organized people. Today, the Yazidi people embrace the Yazidi identity’s legacy of resistance.

During the genocide, ISIS took thousands of Yazidi women captive. As Kongra Star, state once again that we will work with all our might to rescue all abducted women, whose whereabouts are unknown

We salute the Yazidi people, especially Yazidi women, once again and strongly condemn the genocide against the Yazidi people.”
