News Center- The Kenya floods death toll keeps rising. The number of people killed by floods in Kenya has risen to 228, the Government Spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura said in a press statement on Sunday.

Nine people, including two children, lost their lives in the past 24 hours due to the devastating floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains, the Isaac Mwaura added.

212,630 persons displaced

“Furthermore, approximately 212,630 persons from 42,539 households have been displaced. The total number of persons affected across the country stands at 223,198,” the statement said.

According to the statement, at least 164 people have been injured by floods and 72 people are still missing in the country.

Warning about Cyclone Hidaya

The government also issued a warning about Cyclone Hidaya, expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to the coastal region. Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in East Africa have been negatively affected by floods caused by heavy rains for three weeks.
