Journalists handcuffed behind their backs while being detained

After the 24-hour lawyer restriction, six journalists, who were detained in Izmir on Tuesday, told their lawyers that they had been handcuffed behind their backs while being detained.

News Center- On Tuesday, Turkish police conducted dawn raids in Izmir and detained six journalists: JINNEWS reporter Melike Aydın, Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reporters Delal Akyüz, Tolga Güney and Semra Turan, Gazete Duvar reporter Cihan Başakçıoğlu and Fatma Funda Akbulut, a press worker for the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party).

After their detention, a 24-hour lawyer restriction was imposed on the journalists. Today, the 24-hour lawyer restriction ended and journalists met their lawyers at the anti-terror bureau in Çankaya.

They were handcuffed behind their backs

The journalists told their lawyers that their electronic devices had been confiscated during the house raids and that they had been handcuffed behind their backs while being detained. According to their lawyers, Semra Turan and Delal Akyüz were forced to bow their heads by police while being detained. The journalists are expected to be referred to the courthouse tomorrow.
