News Center- 80-year-old Makbule Özer and her husband Hadi Özer (79), who live in the Edremit district of Van province, were sent to prison last week after the Turkish Supreme Court upheld their two years and a month prison sentence for allegedly aiding and abetting a terrorist organization. Makbule Özer has been kept in prison for a week. Her lawyers demanded their client to serve her prison sentence at home; however, their demand was rejected by the court.

“I could die here at any moment”

Sending a message from prison, Makbule Özer said, “I cannot walk. There is no guarantee that I won't die here. I want to go home as soon as possible. I could die here at any moment. I am behind bars and suffering from diabetes, high cholesterol, and osteoporosis. The friends in prison try to take good care of me as they can, the prison administration takes me to the infirmary every day, but this cannot continue like this because my children had difficulties in taking care of me when I was at home. I demand my immediate release from prison.”

The lawyers of the family demanded the court for Hadi Özer to allow him to serve his prison sentence at home but their demand was rejected by the court.
