Israel arrests senior Palestinian lawmaker Khalida Jarrar

Khalida Jarrar, a prominent figure in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), was arrested on Tuesday by the Israeli army at her home in the occupied West Bank.

Khalida Jarrar was elected to the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) in January 2006 as one of the PFLP's three lawmakers. She had been previously arrested by Israeli forces in October 2019 and released in September 2019 after being held without trial.

Her husband, Ghassan Jarrar, told AFP that Israeli soldiers stormed the family home in the city of Ramallah “by breaking open the front door at 5:00 am”.

“The Israeli army launched a vast campaign on Tuesday morning to arrest leaders of the group in the occupied West Bank. These arrests will not break the will of our people,” the PFLP said in a statement.

The Israeli army has launched a mass arrest campaign in the West Bank and Jerusalem for several days. According to the local sources, at least 55 Palestinians, including three women and two journalists, have been arrested in the occupied West Bank. Since October 7, at least 4,785 people have been arrested in the West Bank by the Israeli forces.
