Iranian journalist Elnaz Mohammadi forced to resign
Iranian journalist Elnaz Mohammadi has announced that she was forced to resign from Hammihan newspaper a month ago.
News Center- Iranian journalist announced on her Instagram on December 14 that she was forced to resign from Hammihan daily newspaper a month ago.
In September 2023, Elnaz Mohammadi received a three-year suspended prison sentence for covering the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (Women, Life, Freedom)” protests that sparked in Rojhelat and Iran following the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini by Iran’s so-called “morality police” in September 2022.
Her sister Elaheh Mohammadi, also a journalist, is serving a 12-year prison sentence in Tehran’s Evin prison.
“I was forced to leave the social group that we formed with Elaheh with great enthusiasm in July last year. There are many reasons behind my resignation, but it is better not to say them. I remain silent for Elaheh, who has been imprisoned for a year and a few months,” her Instagram post said.
In September 2022, Elaheh Mohammadi was arrested for reporting the funeral of Mahsa Amini. In October 2023, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Elaheh Mohammadi to six years in prison for “collaborating with the hostile countries,” five years in prison for “acting against national security,” and one year in prison for “propaganda against the regime.” In 2023, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
