Iran: Maryam Karimi sentenced to two years, seven months in prison

Maryam Karimi, a designer and tourist guide in the city of Rasht, has been sentenced to two years and seven months in prison on charges of “encouraging corruption and prostitution” and “propaganda against the system”.

News Center- Maryam Karimi, a designer and tourist guide in Iran’s Rasht city, has been sentenced to two years and seven months in prison on charges of “encouraging corruption and prostitution by calling for a civil disobedience”, “posting indecent photos” and “propaganda against the system”, Maryam Karimi said in a post on Instagram on Saturday.

 In May 2024, Maryam Karimi was arrested in a house raid by Iran’s security forces. After being informed about the charges against her, she was released on bail.

“On a beautiful day in May, they raided my home, handcuffed me, and took me to the Prosecutor's Office of Rasht,” her post said.
