Iran: Baha’i citizen sentenced to five years in prison

Nazila Hakhar, a Baha'i citizen living in Tehran, has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court on charges of “membership in an illegal group aimed at disrupting the country's security.”

One of the accusations against Nazila Hakhar was to provide education courses to children.

On August 13, 2023, Iranian security forces raided the houses of many Baha’i citizens in Tehran, Karaj, Qazvin, Shiraz, Mashhad, Sari and Gonbad-e Kavus. After the search, the security forces confiscated mobile phones, computers and laptops of the Baha’i citizens.

On the same day, Iranian security forces raided the house of Nazila Hakhar in Tehran and searched her house. They confiscated her mobile phone, laptop, computer and all the books about the Baha'i faith.
