Sudan_ The International Organization for  Migration stated yesterday,Sunday,August 9,that the Displacement Tracking Matrix(DTM)estimated that approximately 5,135 indiciduals have been displaced from 10 different villages in Sarba locality,as a result of escalating insecurity and clashes in Bir Saliba.

The IOM reported that the majority  of affected familites have been displaced across the border to chad,whiel the situatiion remains tense and rapildy evoiving,noting that the latest displacement wave came following a previous incident that occurred on August4.

In its latest estimates last Thursday,the organizatiion had reported the displacement of approximately 6,650 people from 11 villages in Sarba locality,West Darfur State,following escalating clashes and insecurity.

The IOM confirmed that the situation remains tense and rapidly changing,and that DTM teams continue to monior developments and population movements in Sudan.

The Organization warned that continued fighting could lead to further displacement of more residents,calling for the protectiion of civilians and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected inside Sudan.

Bir Saliba is considered one of the strategic location on the axes leading to the city of El Geneina in Western Sudan,making it a site of repeated clashes between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)and the army and its allies.

The localities of Kulbus and Sarba,located on the Sudan-Chad border,have also witnessed repeated waves of diplacement since the outbreak of conflict in Sudan in mid -April 2023,due to ongoing cladhes between the RSF and the Sudanese army.
