“In Urfa, laws have been put into cold storage, instructions are active” Şenyaşar family says

The sit-in protest started by the Şenyaşar family demanding justice has entered its 583rd day.

Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 583rd day.

In the morning, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar came in front of the courthouse to hold their sit-in protest for justice. Last week, police blockaded the area where the Şenyaşar family has held their protest with barriers. The police barriers have been removed from the area; however, the area has been surrounded by cars, the area is claimed to be a “parking area”.

Today, members of the Lawyers Association for Freedom (ÖHD) Antep and Urfa branches visited the family to support their struggle for justice.

“What is going on at the Urfa Courthouse?”

“By the instruction of the office of the chief prosecutor, the area where we have been holding the sit-in protest was surrounded by police barriers. They were removed after seven days. In Urfa, laws have been put into cold storage, instructions are active. What is going on at the Urfa Courthouse? We call on the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) to fulfill its duty,” the Şenyaşar family posted today on their social media account by tagging the official accounts of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) and Turkish Ministry of Justice.
