Imrali Delegation applies to meet Abdullah Öcalan again

The Imrali Delegation of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) has applied to the Turkish Ministry of Justice for a second meeting with Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

News Center- The Imrali Delegation of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) has applied to the Turkish Ministry of Justice for a second meeting with Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

 On December 28, 2024, a delegation consisting of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) MPs Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder had a meeting with Abdullah Öcalan. After the meeting, a delegation consisting of Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Pervin Buldan and Ahmet Türk, the ousted Co-mayor of Mardin, held meetings with representatives of political parties, political prisoners and organizations.

On January 17, 2025, the delegation released a statement, saying:

“Following our meeting with Mr.Abdullah Öcalan in Imrali prison on December 28, 2024, we held meetings with the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Türkiye), political parties and political prisoners, upon his request.”

On January 3, the delegation first had a meeting with Numan Kurtuluş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye. Then, it had meetings with the representatives of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), the Justice and Development Party (AKP), the Felicity Party (Saadet), the Republican People’s Party (CHP), the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) and the New Welfare Party (YRB). Between January 10 and January 11, the delegation visited political prisoners, including former Co-Chairs of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş, Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair Leyla Güven and Selçuk Mızraklı, the ousted Co-mayor of Diyarbakır.

After the meetings, the delegation applied Monday to the Turkish Ministry of Justice for a second meeting with Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
