Hundreds taken into custody in house raids conducted in 32 cities

Hundreds of people, including members of the DEM Party, have been detained in the house raids conducted in 32 cities.

News Center- Hundreds of people, including members of the People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and NGOs, have been taken into custody in the house raids conducted in 32 cities, especially in Ankara, Istanbul, Tekirdağ, Dîlok (Antep), Bursa and Izmir.

11 people detained in Istanbul

Police conducted house raids in Istanbul as part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. 11 people, including members of the DEM Party, have been detained.

 9 people detained in Tekirdağ

Police also conducted house raids in Tekirdağ, Bursa, Çanakkale and Kocaeli. According to the received reports, nine people were taken into custody in Tekirdağ. In addition, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued an arrest warrant against 20 people on charges of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization”. After the arrest warrant, police raided many homes in Ankara and detained a citizen named Murat Çoban.

House raid in Dîlok

Police raided the home of Fatma Vesek in the Şahinbey district of Dîlok (Antep) province. Fatma Vesek has been detained on charges of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization”.

Co-chairs of the ANYAKAYDER detained in Izmir

Polic conducted dawn house raids in Izmir. According to the received reports, four people have been taken into custody. The names of detained people are: Emine İnan, activist of the Free Women’s Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA);  Rahime Turan and Mikail Atan, Co-chairs of the Anatolian Association for Assistance and Solidarity with the Families Who Have Lost Their Relatives (ANYAKAY-DER) and Zarife Sungur, member of the association.

House raids in Van, Erzurum, Colemêrg and Bitlis

Police conducted house raids in Colemêrg (Hakkari) and its Şemdinli district as part of an investigation launched by the Hakkari Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. According to the local sources, Ahmet Durmaz and his wife Şehrivan Durmaz were taken into custody in Hakkari and Birhat Uysal and Halil Saraç were taken into custody in Şemdinli.

Two people have been detained in the house raids conducted in Erzurum’s Xinûs (Hınıs) and Qereçoban (Karaçoban) districts. Police also conducted house raids in Van and Tatvan district of Bitlis. A citizen named Şevin Bartu was taken into custody in Van and a citizen named Aydın Tanrı was taken into custody in Tatvan.

Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on his social media account that 208 people have been taken into custody in the house raids conducted in 32 cities.
