Attorney Zilan Lefentoglu, the lawyer representing Hüda Kaya, announced the decision to release her client through a post on social media.

In her statement on Monday, November 3, Lefentoglu, who represents the former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP Hüda Kaya, wrote:

“Despite all the legal violations, Hüda Kaya has finally been released. As is known, our client had been notified that an arrest warrant would be issued against her if she did not surrender within ten days — a decision based on arguments entirely lacking legal grounds. In response to this blatant violation, we used all available legal and democratic means and submitted the necessary petitions.”

She continued:

“We presented the case to the Ministry of Justice, the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor, and the Execution Judge, emphasizing that enforcing the sentence in prison was neither legally nor morally acceptable. We demonstrated with conclusive evidence that the judicial record related to the February 28 coup, which formed the basis for our client’s imprisonment, had become null, unjust, and devoid of any historical legitimacy.”

Lefentoglu further stated:

In this context, we stressed that the execution of the sentence should be carried out through conditional release or, at the very least, house arrest — as the minimum requirement of both law and conscience.”

Concluding her statement, she added:

“As of today, our client, who was wrongfully imprisoned, has been released under a supervised sentence execution decision, based on the fact that the conviction linked to the February 28 events no longer holds any legal validity. We thank all people of conscience who stood with us, raised their voices, and showed solidarity — journalists, politicians, and the conscious public. This outcome is not only the result of a legal struggle but also a shared victory of society’s collective conscience
