HRA: We will continue to stand together against hate

Human Rights Association (HRA) issued a press statement about the police attack on the LGBTI+ Pride March.

News Center - Human Rights Association (HRA) Women’s Commission issued a press statement about the police attack on the LGBTI+ Pride March on Saturday. We are against the violation of freedom of expression, demonstration, organization, and the torture against the Istanbul Pride March and peaceful demonstration of LGBTI+s,” say the HRA in the statement.

The statement is as follows;

“According to the date of the HRA Documentation Unit, at least 2980 people were subjected to torture and other ill-treatment during demonstrations by the security forces in 2020. According to the data of the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (HRFT) Documentation Center, at least 2014 people were subjected to torture and other ill-treatment and 65 people were wounded during their peaceful demonstrations by security forces in 2020.”

 In the statement, the HRA Women’s Commission reminded that the Istanbul Pride March has been held since 1993, “Despite all bans, LGBTI people continue to seek their rights by taking to the streets. Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention, protecting women and LGBTI+s from violence, was announced at a midnight, and people are openly left alone against violence. But the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention is null and void for women and LGBTI+s. We announce again that we will continue to stand together against violence, discrimination, prohibitions, ignorance, and hate.”
