Heavy rains in Yemen affect over 3,000 displaced families
Heavy rains and floods have killed four people and affected over 3,000 displaced families in Yemen, Yemeni officials said on Sunday.
News Center- Several Yemeni provinces have been witnessing heavy rainfall and floods since last week. Heavy rains and floods caused by climate change have killed four people and affected over 3,000 internally displaced families in Yemen, Yemeni officials said on Sunday.
The executive unit for internally displaced persons camps indicated in a statement that the heavy rains and floods affected thousands of families across several provinces. 1,700 families were affected in the displacement camps in Al-Jawf province and 800 families in Hadramout. Moreover, the floods and rains affected 458 families in Abyan, 50 families in Al-Dhalea, and 30 families in Shabwah.
In late 2014, the Yemeni civil war began between the internationally recognized Yemeni government forces and the Ansar Allah Houthi group. The Yemeni war has internally displaced more than 4.5 million people and 21.6 million are in dire need of humanitarian assistance and protection services, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
