Hassina Mouri elected as president for IUGS
Hassina Mouri, a Professor in Medical Geology at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), became the first African woman elected as the president (2024-2028) for the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).
News Center- Hassina Mouri, an Algerian Professor in Medical Geology at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), was elected as the president (2024-2028) for the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) on Thursday.
She became the first African woman elected for the IUGS, one of the world’s largest scientific organizations, at the Fifth Ordinary Session of IUGS-IGC Council in Busan, a port city in South Korea.
On October 30, 2020, Hassina Mouri was elected as the Vice President (2020-2024) for the IUGS.
The IUGS has actively promoted and encouraged international collaboration in the study of geological issues, particularly those with global significance since it was founded in 1961.
