‘Great Freedom March’ to begin on February 1

Political parties and democratic organizations have announced that they will hold a march called “Great Freedom March” in February, demanding the lift of the isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and the resolution to the Kurdish question.

News Center- A press conference was held in Amed (Diyarbakır) on Friday about the march demanding the lift of the isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imrali F-type High Security Closed Prison and the resolution to the Kurdish question.

The press conference was held at a hotel in Amed with the participation of People’s Democratic Congress (HDK) Co-spokesperson Cengiz Çiçek, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-chairs Keskin Bayındır and Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar, People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) MPs and the representatives of political parties and democratic organizations.

‘75 human rights activists will participate in the march’

At the conference, DEM Party Mardin MP Beritan Güneş Altın said that 75 human rights activists would participate in the march. DBP Co-chair Keskin Bayındır read a press statement titled, “We are going to hold a freedom march to break the Imrali isolation and find a democratic resolution to the Kurdish question.” According to the statement, the march will begin on February 1 and last until February 15, the 25th anniversary of the international conspiracy against Abdullah Öcalan.

‘No information has been received about Mr. Öcalan for two years and 10 months’

“The isolation imposed on Mr. Öcalan, who is seen as a decisive figure in the struggle for equality, justice and freedom by the people in Turkey and the Middle East, especially Kurdish people, has entered its 25th year. No information has been received about Mr. Öcalan for two years, 10 months and 1037 days. Isolation is an inhuman practice violating Turkey's domestic laws and international law. We announce that we will initiate our ‘Great Freedom March’ in Kurdish cities and districts on February 1 and it will last until February 15, the 25th anniversary of the international conspiracy against Mr. Öcalan. The aim of our action is to break the isolation imposed on Mr. Öcalan, ensure his physical freedom for the democratic resolution to the Kurdish question,” the statement said.

Sinan Çiftyürek: The isolation is unethical

At the press conference, DEM Party Van MP Sinan Çiftyürek expressed his reaction to the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan and said, “The isolation imposed on Mr. Öcalan for nearly three years is unprecedented in the history of the world. The Turkish state has been violating its laws by imposing this isolation. Mr. Öcalan has not been allowed to see his family members and lawyers for about three years.”

Kerem Canpolat calls on everyone to participate in the march

Kerem Canpolat, Co-chair of the Federation of Associations in Solidarity with Prisoners' Families (MED TUHAD-FED), said that marches would be held in all Kurdish cities. “The isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan causes an economic and political deadlock in Kurdistan and Turkey. Everyone, who demands peace, stability and unity in Turkey and Kurdistan should join hands and participate in the march.”
