ŞÎRÎN SALIH

Germiyan- Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan, the architect of the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” philosophy, has been kept under an aggravated isolation in Imrali prison for 24 years. Despite all the calls and applications, no news has been received from Abdullah Öcalan since March 25, 2021. The applications of his lawyers and family members to meet him are rejected or unanswered by Turkish authorities on the grounds of “disciplinary” punishments.

Speaking about the aggravated isolation imposed on Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan, Şeyma Edanan, co-chair of the Freedom Movement in the Germiyan region, said “Global protests should be held to break the isolation.”

‘The isolation is imposed on the Kurdish people’

Emphasizing that no news has been received from Abdullah Öcalan for about two years, Şeyma Ednan said that his lawyers and family members have not been allowed to meet him. “The isolation has been imposed not only on leader Öcalan but also on the Kurdish people. The Turkish state has been intensifying its attacks by imposing this isolation. The Turkish state has used chemical weapons on the Kurdistan Mountains. Since the Turkish state has been defeated on the mountains, it has begun to target women struggling for freedom.”

‘CPT is responsible for his situation’

Adding that the Turkish state wants to annihilate the Kurdish people, Şeyma Ednan said, “For this reason, we call on international human rights organizations and the international community to take a step in order to end this isolation. CTP is responsible for leader Öcalan’s current situation. The condition in Imrali Prison is not suitable for leader Öcalan's health. The CTP has not released a report about its last visit to the Imrali prison and this raises our concerns. If the CTP does not respond to the demand of the Kurdish people and does not release its report, we will take different actions against this silence.”

‘Women must unite’

Underlining that women, who suffered from social pressure and oppression, have become more conscious and organized themselves with the ideology of Abdullah Öcalan, Şeyma Ednan said, “That's why leader Öcalan's freedom is women's freedom. We saw how women educated their society and how they fought ISIS. In 2021, when Iraqi forces tried to attack Shengal (Sinjar), women stood against these attacks. The Iraqi forces had to withdraw thanks to the resistance of women.  Women have become stronger thanks to the philosophy and ideology of leader Öcalan. Women fighters stand against the Turkish attacks while the women in four parts of Kurdistan carry activities against the invaders. Women must unite and take action to protest the isolation imposed upon leader Öcalan.”

‘We will continue our struggle’

Recalling that Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan developed Democratic Modernity, Şeyma Ednan said, “Other states see this as a threat against them. Leader Apo is the key to the solution for the problems in the Middle East. As Kurds and Kurdish women, we say that we will continue our struggle until the isolation is lifted.”
