News Center- Maryam Moghadam and Behtash Sanaeeha, filmmakers of “My Favourite Cake” received a summons from Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, Maryam Moghadam said in a post on her Instagram account on Wednesday.
According to her post, the two filmmakers will stand trial on March 1 on charges of “propaganda against the system”, “breaking Islamic rules by making a vulgar movie” and “spreading prostitution and libertinism”.
“After being interrogated several times at the Evin Security Court, our file was finally sent to Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court for making ‘My Favourite Cake’. According to the summons, the first court session presided over by judge Iman Afshari will be held on March 1,” said her post.
Although the film received awards at international festivals, including the Silver Hugo Award at the Chicago International Film Festival in November 2024, FIPRESCI Prize and the Prizes of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2024, the filmmakers could not attend the award ceremonies because they were banned from travelling abroad.
In September 2023, when Moghaddam and Sanaeeha wanted to travel to Paris for the post-production of the film, their passports were confiscated and they were threatened with criminal charges.
“My Favourite Cake” is a 2024 tragicomedy and romantic drama film, telling the story of a woman who decides to live out her desires in Iran where women's rights are heavily restricted.
