Filmmakers, actors of ‘My Favourite Cake’ stand trial in Iran
The filmmakers and actors of “My Favourite Cake”, an Iranian film that premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, stood trial at Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran on Saturday.

Maryam Moghadam and Behtash Sanaeeha (filmmakers), Esmail Mehrabi and Lily Farhadpour (actors) and Gholamreza Mousavi (producer) stood trial on Saturday on charges of “propaganda against the regime”, “production, distribution and duplication of a film with obscene content”, “offending public decency and morality” and “screening the film without obtaining a screening/distribution license”.
“My Favourite Cake” is a 2024 tragicomedy and romantic drama film, telling the story of a woman who decides to live out her desires in Iran where women's rights are heavily restricted.
Although the film has received awards at international festivals, including the Silver Hugo Award at the Chicago International Film Festival in November 2024, FIPRESCI Prize and the Prizes of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2024, the filmmakers have not been able to attend the award ceremonies because they have been banned from travelling abroad for two years.
