 Sulaymaniyah – Fethiye Eli, a member of the Committee of Martyrs reacts to the ongoing Turkish attacks in the Kurdistan Region and says the attacks of the invaders in the region and the Iraqi government's attacks on Shengal pose a threat to the region.

“The attacks hurt everyone”

Pointing to the chemical attack on Halabja, the Anfal genocide, and the genocide committed against the Yazidi community in 2014, Fethiye Eli said, “We do not want to be subjected to such pains and genocide again. After the 73rd edict, the Yazidis now face another edict. These attacks hurt everyone. Our people should do something to protect themselves from these attacks. We have many martyrs and we do not want to have more martyrs.”

“Kurdish political parties must unite”

Condemning the silence of the authorities in the Kurdistan Region against the occupation, she said that she, as a mother, feels the threat posed by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK or KDP). “How do they remain silent against these attacks and genocides? What has been happening now is a great shame for them. All political parties, particularly the Iraqi Islamic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), should show their dissatisfaction. All members of the parliament should raise their hands and show their dissatisfaction with the ongoing attacks. But the Iraqi Islamic Party and PUK remain silent against these attacks. All Kurdish political parties must unite and raise their voices against the attacks,” she told NuJINHA.

“People should protect their country”

Addressing the people of the region, Fethiye Eli said, “All citizens should take to the streets against the attacks; they must take action to get the invaders out of their homeland. Throughout history, the Kurdish people have faced many attacks aiming to annihilate them. Despite all attacks, the Kurds still exist and have a will. This government has made the youth tired of the current situation. The citizens want to have a peaceful life. Because of this situation, young people try to somehow leave their homeland and go abroad. Hundreds of young people drowned while seeking a better life. The people shouldn’t expect anything from the government anymore and do their best to protect their country. All we want from the authorities is to not support the invaders.”

“Don’t support the invaders”

Stating that the people should support the fighters protecting four parts of Kurdistan, Fethiye Eli said, “Kurdistan freedom guerrillas are the children of the four parts of Kurdistan. We should all support them and stand by them. Everyone should know that if the guerrillas do not respond to the attacks, we will be killed. For this reason, we must all stand by the guerrillas.”

“Mothers should unite against the attacks”

Fethiye Eli called on all citizens and mothers to unite against the Turkish attacks in the Kurdistan Region. “I call on all people of all ages to unite against the attacks. I also want to call on the Turkish mothers to not sacrifice their children for Erdoğan’s decisions and take action for their children. We, as mothers, should unite and demand peace.”
