Female unemployment rate in Morocco reaches 16.5%

In 2020, the female unemployment rate in Morocco reached 16.5 percent, increasing from 13.5 percent in the preceding year, the Moroccan national statistics office said on Wednesday.

Morocco- Morocco's unemployment rate fell to 11.8 percent in the third quarter of 2021, the official High Commission for Planning (Haut Commissariat au Plan-HCP) said on Wednesday. In the same period last year, this rate was 12.7%.

The unemployment rate is higher in urban areas

The report released by the HCP told that the unemployment rate is higher in urban areas than rural areas; the unemployment rate was 16 percent in urban areas and 5.2 percent in rural areas.

Female unemployment rate reaches 16.2%

The unemployment rate among women stood at 16.5 percent and 10.4 percent among men. The unemployment rate was higher among the youth at 31%, graduates at 18.7%, according to the HCP.

Morocco's economy is expected to grow by 6.2 percent in 2021, after a pandemic-driven contraction of 6.3% last year, according to the central bank.
