News Center- The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced Monday that the vigil started by civilians to protect the Tishreen Dam against the attacks of the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions on January 8, has ended.

‘They protect their gains with the spirit of mobilization’

“In January 2025, violent attacks were carried out on our sources of life, our civilian infrastructure of our region,” said the statement issued by the AANES.

The statement is as follows:

“With these attacks, the occupiers aimed to break the will of the free people. The occupying Turkish state and its armed factions intensified their attacks around the Tishreen Dam. The Tishreen Dam is a vital source of water and electricity for the region. The attacks on this dam providing water and power to millions of people, faced the resistance of the Kurdish, Arab and Syriac people.

On January 8, hundreds of people, especially women and young people, went to the Tishreen Dam, joining the resistance on the dam to protect their gains. Our people protected their gains with the spirit of mobilizations by using their bodies as a shield to support the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) and the YPJ (Women’s Defense Units). The people of North and East Syria have proved that they never accept a life without dignity by resisting.

We bow before the memory of Martyrs Menice, Kerem Şehabi, Harûn, Eziz Ereb, Bavê Teyar, Ronahî Efrin with respect. We respectfully commemorate all our martyrs, who sacrificed their lives on the path of freedom and wish all the injured a speedy recovery. We vow that their efforts will not go for nothing. This resistance, which has lasted for more than 100 days with great sacrifice, has resulted in great gains. We are proud to announce that this resistance has prevailed, and been crowned with victory by preventing new threats.

As the Autonomous Administration, we salute everyone, who contributed to this resistance, and the efforts of healthcare workers, who worked devotedly during this resistance. We respectfully commemorate the sacrifice of press workers in the person of Martyrs Cihan, Nazım and Egit Roj.

The Tishreen Dam has become the symbol of national unity, a model of resistance against the Turkish state and its armed factions.
