Emine Şenyaşar: Perpetrators are rewarded with impunity

Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were killed, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar have held a sit-in protest in front of the Urfa Courthouse for 72 days. “Perpetrators are awarded with impunity,” the family said in their tweet.

Riha - The sit-in protest launched by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were killed by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar demanding justice has entered its 72nd day today. Even if today is a national holiday, the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, the Şenyaşar family came in front of the courthouse in the morning.

Today, Emine Şenyaşar held placards reading, “We just demand impartial justice”, “We demand justice and justice” and “A massacre was carried out at Suruç State Hospital, we demand justice”. Police didn’t allow the family to hold their sit-in protest in the yard of the courthouse so the family is holding their protest in front of the door of the courthouse.

Ferit Şenyaşar, who was wounded in the attack on the family, underlined that they came in front of the courthouse although it is a national holiday in Turkey. “We have struggled for justice for 72 days. Today is a national holiday but we say there is no holiday for struggle. We have a rightful cause. A massacre was carried out against our family and the perpetrators are free. We don’t accept this, the humanity doesn’t accept this. We are in front of the courthouse now and we will keep struggling until we have a fair trial. We invite everyone having a conscience to follow this case.”

“The perpetrators have walked freely for 3 years”

The family also posted a tweet reading, “Today is May 19, there is no holiday for justice. Our struggle has entered its 72nd day. Our father and brothers were killed at the hospital. The perpetrators have walked freely for three years, they are rewarded with impunity.”
